School Culture |
The school culture is intentionally designed to respect
diversity and consistently models acceptance of each person as God’s creation. |
APCS Score=3
Ideal |
Reason for Score: APCS has a culturally diverse staff and student body. We have special programs for black history month in February and for Martin Luther King Jr. Day such as guest speakers for assemblies and the 1st and 2nd grade readers' theaters. The teachers emphasize cultural awareness through social studies programs. In addition, we have a
diverse church constituency. By participating in the worship services at each of our constituent churches, our students and their families are encouraged to respect the differences in worship styles among our church families. Also, we
intentionally work with our students to understand and accept students who are different because of learning difficulties or handicaps. These students are welcomed and included within our classrooms.

invitational Christ-like customer service looks like. Students will be educated about how to greet visitors to their classrooms and on the school premises. The administrator and development director will visit at least two other schools who have been awarded Adventist EDGE School of Excellence to observe their customer service in action. We will also visit another local Christian school to observe their customer service.

Positive, Nurturing Environment |
Differentiated instruction honors the Natural Cycle of Learning and is measured by using the Assessment of Instructional Mastery (AIM)
instrument. |
Teachers provide a learning environment where: diversity
is honored and celebrated; a positive, nurturing atmosphere exists; coaching framework creates a climate of grace, acceptance, and trust, enabling students to think critically and stretch creativity to solve problems; instructional time is effectively utilized and flexibility in curriculum implementation is demonstrated as longrange goals are achieved; and teachers provide a learning environment where differentiated instruction honors the Natural Cycle of Learning. |

Reason for Score: Our teachers demonstrate care and concern for their students and encourage each child to reach his/her potential. The teachers are all 4MAT trained and are using 4MAT lessons in their classrooms. To meet the varied needs of the students, students are leveled within the classroom in spelling, reading and math and additional instruction is available through the Hope Learning Center when deemed necessary based on performance and assessment. Our students consistently perform higher than their individual predicted ability on national achievement tests. We are not, however, familiar with the AIM instrument; therefore, we rated ourselves as emerging.
